Burgh Island Hotel

Perfect afternoon tea. Arrived early but were welcomed into the Palm Lounge for a much needed cold drink. Had a lovely table next to open window with great views over the sea. All staff were pleasant and helpful. Food was brilliant with perfect warm scones. Would recommend and hope to return for a stay in the future.

From the moment you arrive to drop your car at the secure parking the level of care and service starts. The staff are all amazingly trained. Little things like “ can you remind me of your room?” makes you feels like they already know you. Good is amazing, particularly the breakfasts. Only a small hotel but one of the best. Can only give positive feedback. Well done to all of the team at the hotel.

A most wonderful experience with well-trained staff; excellent menus, ambiance and location. Make sure you have a meal in the Pilchard Inn and the Ballroom and Nettlefold of course. We certainly plan to return.

Can understand why people come & come time again if you are an age!! Lovely location but caters for a certain type of person, ie those who think they are a character from Poirot haha however an enjoyable experience but not worth £600+ per night b&b im afraid

Burgh Island Hotel draws you under its spell as soon as you view it across the sea from Bigbury-on Sea as a stunning white Art Deco structure. The hotel is full of the atmosphere of the more civilised 20s and 30s. The food is excellent and the staff are kind and attentive to all of your needs..

We thoroughly enjoyed our first trip to Burgh Island. The rooms, staff and food were all excellent and for art deco fans it is a wonderful example of the style, invoking that era to perfection. The cocktail bar area is a little tired and in need of a refurb, but this is a small point in the overall scheme of things. It’s a magical place, which we would thoroughly recommend. It’s not cheap, but it is unique. We will return!

Booked the Afternoon Tea as a surprise for my sisters 60th birthday celebration. It did not disappoint. Walking into the hotel was like walking back into time. You could just image the most amazing functions they had there. The setting in the Palm Court Lounge was stunning. The food delicious and the staff were second to none. Very friendly and approachable and nothing too much trouble.

This beautiful art deco hotel is situated on an island, accessible by sea tractor. We were given a warm welcome with a glass of champagne. The Noel Coward Suite was magnificent and had wonderful views. Every amenity was provided. Our dinner in the grand ballroom was excellent, as was breakfast the following morning.

As an Agatha Christie fan, Burgh Island hotel had long been on my list as a place to visit and stay. Our arrival at the hotel was by a Ford Ranger which drove us over the causeway. We were greeted by the manager who showed us into the beautiful cocktail lounge. We were given hot flannels for our hands then served with champagne and a cocktail. Shortly after we were taken to our bedroom. The Odeon. I must admit that I was disappointed with size of the room being as it was a deluxe! It was a tight space between the bed and the tea trolley. The bathroom was huge compared to the bedroom. The bedroom is pleasantly decorated but the decor is rather tired in places and it was quite dusty! Not enough attention to detail in my opinion. The room has a balcony, which overlooks the main entrance and is also adjacent to the flag pole. The flapping of the cable against the pole is constant and is quite disturbing at night! The hotel is quite beautiful with nice authentic touches to its decor. The grounds are pleasant but again attention to detail is somewhat lacking, which surprises me considering the cost to stay at the hotel. The mermaid pool is stunning but could be made more so with just some additional touches on the decking area. Wr did spend a lovely couple of hours there and in the sunshine it felt like we were in some exotic location! The food was excellent! The black tie evening was amazing especially with the live trio playing and singing throughout the evening. The dance was too small to dance properly though. A bit disappointing. Overall, we both thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the island. But next time we shall ask for a luxe room away from the noisy flagpole!
